Del. Maldonado's Homeownership Protection Bill Becomes Law

Unanimous, bipartisan support for Del. Michelle Maldonado's HB1243 ended this week with the homeownership protection bill being signed into law. The law creates the Unfair Real Estate Service Agreement Act, and adds violations of the act to the list of prohibited violations of relevant consumer protection laws in the Commonwealth.

"I brought forward bill HB1243 because it was time to protect Virginia's homeowners from unfair real estate practices that were scamming them out of their homes," says Maldonado. "I want to send a big thank you to AARP, Virginia Land Title Association, and Virginia Realtors, and also to Senator Adam Ebbin for bringing forward Senate bill SB576. It was great team work!"
