Democratic Asian Americans of Virginia (DAAV) celebrated AAPI Heritage Month and their ten-year anniversary with a dinner and awards ceremony on May 21. Del. Michelle Maldonado called it an honor to attend, congratulating the organization on "a decade of impact, amplification, action, and progress."
During the celebration, DAAV recognized community members with awards for their service. These included the Joe Montano Award, presented to Chanda Choun and Hanh Deniston; the Unsung Hero Award, presented to Kim-Ha Ly and Jalmeen Soni; and the Fearless Leader Award, presented to Senator Ghazala Hashmi.
DAAV's mission is to "promote the interests of the Asian Americans in support of the Democratic Party." The organization's activities include education and outreach, as well as a focus on voter registration, recruitment of members of local Democratic committees, and the endorsement of candidates for political office.
